Friday April 26th horse racing tips

  • SANDOWN - 1.50: Cogitate 5/1 each-way (NB - 2pts), 3.00: Lord North 3/1 (1.5pts), 3.35: Arabian Crown 11/10 (NAP - 2pts)
  • PERTH - 3.50: African Dance 13/2 each-way (1pt)

Cogitate

Cogitate is a great runner for trainer Charlie Hills and he got off to a fantastic start as a two-year-old when beating Boiling Point by two lengths on debut, with that form obviously working out very well.

But he's bumped into great runners on his last two outings, including on his return as a three-year-old last time out to the odds-on Night Raider, who has now won his two starts by comfortable distances.

Cogitate and Night Raider were miles ahead of the rest of the filed and he could keep progressing especially on his second run of the season, having brushed off the cobwebs nicely last time out.

The Camden Colt made a fantastic return to form last time out and Richard Hannon's getting plenty of his runners to run to form recently, including this colt who had always hinted at being better than his 2023 campaign ended up.

He was involved in a Group 2, the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot as an 80/1 shot and has placed well in great company but his resurgence as a three-year-old bodes well.

Lord North

William Buick gets aboard Lord North for the first time and that does make it even more interesting, as this horse who's accumulated nearly £6.5m in earnings is back in Britain for another big contest, the bet365 mile.

What's more intriguing is him being dropped back to 1m for the first time since October 2019.

He progressed so far when upped to 1m2f and hasn't really looked back, winning and placing in numerous Group races since, including some valuable abroad including the Breeders' Cup, Dubai World Cup and even placed close behind Vadeni here in the Coral Eclipse.

He's hard to discount and is much better to side with back on turf in Britain for the first time since that Eclipse run which was a surprise at 33/1.

Arabian Crown

This three-year-old colt has won three in a row now since coming a close third to Starlore on debut.

He's proven himself again and again, including here, over 7f and now bids to continue his progress at 1m2f having been upped in trip at Newmarket for the Ghaiyyath Zetland Stakes, where he breezed through to win by over five lengths.

He's sure to take some beating in the hands of Buick for trainer Charlie Appleby, owned by Godolphin who so often get winners galore in these kind of valuable races.

African Dance

Two runners for trainer Olly Murphy with his strongest chance according to the betting, Chasing Fire.

Who not only has to go off top-weight over the 3m but also as he attempts that distance for the very first time.

African Dance hasn't been seen in 444 days since beating Geryville at Market Rasen in February 2023.

That would usually be a cause for concern but he won that day off the back of 448 days off and is not up in the weights for that.

Prior to that he made all to beat En Meme Temps at Ayr having come back after 226 days off.

He's clearly able to run well when fresh and has defied this mark twice in a row but due to his time away always returns at the same weight.
