QPR eyeing swoop for Ipswich Town defender

Queens Park Rangers are eyeing up a swoop for Ipswich Town defender Luke Woolfenden according to Blues site TWTD.

The London club are currently on a poor run of form which has bought mounting speculation that they could look for a replacement for current boss Mark Warburton and are keeping tabs on Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth.

21-year-old Woolfenden is enjoying a fine start to the season for the Tractor Boys as he makes his breakthrough into the first team and this has alerted the Championship side to his availability.

Having spent time on loan at Swindon last season, Woolfenden has now returned to Ipswich and been able to force his way into manager Paul Lambert’s plan and helped them to second in League One.

The Ipswich-born defender has made 16 outings for the Blues this season and is certainly one of the players that Lambert will want to retain going into the second half of the campaign as they look to achieve promotion straight back to the Championship.

The Hoops are struggling and it is unlikely that Woolfenden would want to leave his hometown club whilst they are in the middle of such a successful season.

It is almost certain that Paul Lambert will resist any interest in the youngster who returned to partner Wales international James Wilson in defence for their 1-1 draw with Coventry City last weekend.

Ipswich will also be looking to keep their midfielder Flynn Downes who has been the subject of speculation from Championship side Fulham following an impressive start to the season.
