Town Move on Cards For Robins Head of Performance
Wednesday, 28th Apr 2021 11:38

Bristol City’s head of performance Andrew Rolls has left Ashton Gate with immediate effect and TWTD understands could join the Blues in a similar role this summer, following Robins CEO Mark Ashton to Portman Road.

Rolls has been Bristol City's head of performance (sports science and medicine) since June 2018 having previously worked as first-team physio at Arsenal for the previous five years and at West Ham between 2009 and 2013.

Prior to that he spent five years at Watford, where he was physio and head of medicine and also worked under new Blues CEO Ashton. Rolls has a BSc in physiotherapy from Teesside University.

Announcing his departure, the Bristol City website said he was leaving to “pursue a new challenge” which we understand is likely to be at Town.

Bristol City chairman Jon Lansdown told his club’s official website: “We wish Andy all the best. He has worked tirelessly for the club over the last three years and, especially in the past 12 months, he has helped the staff and the players through a difficult period with the Covid-19 pandemic, for which he should be given due credit.”

Rolls added: “I’d like to thank all my colleagues who have been a huge support in my time at Bristol City. They are dedicated professionals and deserve every success.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here and I hope I have put in place processes that will move the club forward.”

As well manager Paul Cook revamping his playing staff over the summer, it's also anticipated that there will be significant changes off the field.

In addition to CEO Ashton, Robins head of operations/club secretary Luke Werhun is also set to join the Blues.

As reported last week, Town are also set to appoint former left-back Scott Barron as their new head of recruitment.

Hmmmm. Not sure about this one. Lots of Robins fans saying he was the reason for their injuries this season. Although, he'd still be better than ours atm!

Jack sted. Then their fans are talking as much rubbish as some of ours are, regarding injuries. All I can say is if the medical team are responsible for the injuries at clubs, then theres not 1 decent one at any club in the country.

and how do their fans know anything really, wasn't there a pandemic about that might have influenced injuries and fitness?

While they're busy taking away their staff, can we please have their tea urn. The hot water in the north stand has a horrible taste, which will be even worse now it has stood for over a year.

Kickingblock, the water in the Co-Op is just as bad.

Best take all their urns then. Every staff member that moves to Suffolk can bring one with them.

Compared with Army tea, the Portman Road brew is simply divine 😂

The Bristol fans are the same ones complaining about Ashton and Bristol being a selling club when they've spent approx 50 million past 3/4 seasons on players themselves oh to have that much money to spend!

I'm not exactly excited if we are recruiting what Bristol City fans see as failures but what football club thinks a Head of Performance is necessary?

Good news that the off-field team is building nicely.
On a light hearted note, at this rate with all the Bristol City staff coming our way we shall need a new club badge along the lines of a Robin driving a Tractor!

Esseeja - perhaps Town has more potential than BC with the right people in place? As for what "the fans think".................; loads of people "think BJ is a good prime minister"!

Rumour has it we might be changing our club name to Bristol City. Hopefully we'll be a little more successful than them

The only thing worse than the first team at this club is the infrastructure, I am please that the new owners have highlighted this and moved to strengthen this part of the club.

Wooly74 army tea especially when they chuck in condensed milk yuk. Still on a cold winters morning on Dartmoor or Brecon it might taste like shyte but at least it was warm lol. Still lets get back to the football and hope for much improvement on the field next season.

What I gather Bristol City have been underwhelming regarding success on the pitch and recruiting of players to cover for those that have left for a profit and all this considering the owners wealth...injury problems this season as well.

Interesting, the tea and water remarks in the a North Stand.... I've often wondered if they put the same water in the beer!! 😝

Seeing all of the possible appointments really does hit home how the clubs infrastructure had been stripped out in order to keep costs down to a minimum. In Paul Cook's words the players are not fit, so it looks like this situation and position is being addressed (hopefully).

Good to see the club building up a proper structure behind the scenes! Good to get these things done early and hopefully same with in and outs in the summer. Get the bulk of the business done before pre season in an ideal world

Forgive me if I'm being ignorant but haven't Bristol City spent loads of cash and got nowhere?

Monkey_Blue - to put it succinctly (see my above post)...they've made more than they've spent from selling players on and the one's they've got in as replacements haven't been as good i.e. Wells, Lansbury, Kalas etc. and yes you're right they haven't been that successful on the pitch considering they have one of the wealthiest owners.

Maybe that's the attraction of the CEO as he's been thrifty in the transfer market and made the club money.

Have we even ever had a Head of Performance at ITFC? Just goes to show the neglect and incompetence of the Evans regime.
